The US House of Representatives supported opening an impeachment inquiry into Biden | foreign country

The Republican-led US House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to launch a formal impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden over his son Hunter Biden’s controversial foreign business dealings.

Democrats have rejected the allegations as unfounded.

221 popular representatives supported the investigation and 212 against, i.e. the vote took place strictly along party lines. All Republicans voted for it and all Democrats voted against it.

US President Joe Biden immediately condemned the vote, calling it, among other things, an unfounded political stunt.

“Instead of doing their jobs on pressing issues, they choose to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans themselves admit is not supported by the facts,” Biden said minutes after the vote.

The investigation has virtually no chance of success, but it could become a headache for the White House during the 2024 elections.

The Reuters news agency pointed out that Republicans have not yet managed to provide evidence linking Biden’s activity as vice president to his son’s business activities, and the same will not pass the Senate.

“It is highly unlikely that the Senate, where Biden’s Democratic Party has a majority, will vote to impeach the president,” the press release read.
