Thefts have increased in Estonia and vodka thieves are putting several bottles down their trousers in shops

According to Juhan Aia, staff security manager at Viking Security, unfortunately difficult economic times are always accompanied by an increase in theft attempts.

“No theft is justified. Security companies see people ruining their lives by continually breaking the law. In fact, even with a day’s work you can earn more than you expect to recover from a typical burglary attempt. And even if there are layoffs in some places, the Unemployment Fund can quickly retrain for occupations where there is a shortage of staff,” the service manager suggested.

“The second group is the so-called professional thieves who try to steal the most expensive things and then resell them. Experienced groups are detained in cooperation with security companies and the police, but unfortunately new testers appear in their place. Although the new thieves are often very confident, unfortunately they often try to take other people’s property from the store in embarrassing ways,” Aia said.

For example, according to the head of the manned guard at Viking Security, recently, for some reason, various thieves have tried to steal more expensive alcohol by stuffing large bottles into their pants.

“It happened in different cities and in different ways. For example, a man tried to steal vodka by paying for one bottle, but he had put the other one in his trousers. Obviously it became known, the person was arrested and handed over to the police “Aia said.

The head of the guard added that there have been similar attempts to steal other hard liquor, as well as just bottles of cheap beer.

“It even happened that a thief tried to hide two bottles of vodka in his trousers at the same time. One of the strangest cases was when the man put a bottle of vodka in his trousers, then went to take a cake from the cake pan and started eating it right in the store, and when the security guards arrested him, he tried to escape from them in his situation, which obviously didn’t work,” Aia described.

The head of the guard explained that the thieves’ different tactics are known to both video surveillance specialists and security personnel, and especially the shelves of the most expensive goods are constantly monitored by cameras.

“Essentially, people’s behavior can be predicted when some kind of so-called maneuver is implemented. Since both North and South Estonia have centralized video surveillance centers above shops, it is sometimes enough for a person who has repeatedly attempted to steal enters a shop, in case of violation of the law, she will be arrested in a minute. . Attempts to earn money by stealing sooner or later end badly for a person,” said the head of the guards of Viking Security.
