There will be a summer stage, a bar and an observation platform on the roof of the Põlva Estonia Cultural Centre

A multifunctional recreation area of approximately 700 square meters will be built on the roof of the Põlva Cultural Center: a summer stage, a bar area and an observation platform will be built on different levels of the roof.

The summer stage and viewing platform built on the roof of the Põlva Cultural Center is called Taevapark. During the planning process it became clear that the roof trusses of the theater hall of the cultural center did not meet the requirements and would have to be replaced even without the construction of the Taevapark.

“The work should have been carried out anyway, because this is a building that was completed in the early 1990s. Several leaks in the roof. And what finally dotted the i was that, when we ordered a appraisal for the entire building, it was established that the ceiling trusses of the theater, on which the roof park will be built, were once made of welded steel, so one way or another we are obliged to replace these trusses,” he explained Martti Rõigas, mayor of Põlva.

Construction will cost more than 800,000 euros, half of which will be obtained from the support measure for the implementation of territorial development strategies.

The opposition in the Põlva city council did not support the project, because they believed that the education system and the road network needed investment.

“In itself it is still a really exciting and interesting place where you can organize shows, concerts, where you can enjoy the view – in this sense it is undoubtedly a positive project. It’s just a question of budget that it takes And more singing here probably plays a bit of seasonality and it is unlikely that it will be usable all year round,” said Ahti Bleive, head of the review committee of the Põlva parish council.

The official opening of the Skypark will take place in August, where artists from different countries are expected.

“An absolutely unique place with beautiful views that will be enjoyed by many people, visitors, event organizers. We have almost a whole world that will gather here at the end of August. We have artists from Japan, Canada, Georgia, Turkey, France, Switzerland , Germany and at the end of August also from Haiti and the United States”, said Eerika Mark, director of the Põlva Cultural Center.
