Toomas Ellervee has taken over the leadership of the Põlva hospital board

“The state of Põlva hospital is very good for this year’s budget, but the future may not be bright. Considering the war in Ukraine, the current state of the Estonian economy, the deficit of the Health Fund, we can say that yes difficult times loom,” said Toomas Ellervee.

According to him, Põlva Hospital has its place in the healthcare system, both in active treatment and in aftercare. The renovated emergency medicine department, which will be completed next summer, will offer patients modern and comfortable treatment options.

“This niche, in which the emphasis is placed not only on the active treatment of internal diseases and surgery, but also on rehabilitation, nursing and caring, creates a good context for the clinic of the University of Tartu, where possibilities to treat lighter patients are limited. These services are badly needed for Estonia’s aging population,” Ellervee added.

The Supervisory Board of AS Põlva Haigla consists of six members. Tartu SA University Hospital and the municipality of Põlva appoint three members each. In addition to Ellervee, the board includes the clinic’s financial director, Rasmus Pikkani, and the nursing director of the sports medicine and rehabilitation clinic, Kadri Piir. The municipality of Põlva is represented by Georg Pelisaar, president of the municipal council of Põlva, Lennart Liba, head of the Põlvamaa development center, and Enel Liin, mayor of the municipality of Räpina.
