Union: Hollywood actors approve new contract with studios | foreign country

Hollywood actors in the United States have overwhelmingly approved a hard-fought new agreement with studios to end a months-long strike, the union said on Tuesday.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) confirmed that 78 percent of members who voted approved the multi-year contract, while nearly 22 percent opposed it.

Union president Fran Drescher said in a statement that this is the golden age of SAG-AFTRA and that the actors’ union has never been stronger.

According to the union, the contract includes more than $1 billion in new compensation and benefits, as well as protections for actors against studios’ use of artificial hair.

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents studios such as Netflix Inc., Walt Disney and others, also said it was pleased with the deal
