VIDEO | Metallica shared hundreds of thousands of dollars in the school band competition!

“In April, we challenged marching bands across the country to perform our music,” the band announced on their social media platforms. Metallica’s James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo chose the winners of the contest, announcing on social media: “The results were amazing and extremely competitive, and now they’re here!” Additionally, fan favorites were determined via online voting.

The competition’s total prize money was over $180,000, which demonstrates Metallica’s commitment to music education and the development of young talent. The Auburn University Marching Band won first prize in the Metallica Marching Band Competition and was also named a Fan Favorite. As a result of the win, the orchestra will receive $85,000 worth of musical instruments and equipment for its school programs.

The Auburn band was one of 450 marching bands across America to enter the competition, a Metallica spokeswoman said. Brass bands performed to participate in the competition Youtubein which their bands had to perform at least one of 13 Metallica songs. The list included “Enter Sandman”, “Master of Puppets”, “Fade to Black”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, “Creeping Death” and “Seek & Destroy”. The finalists were selected by seven professional musicians with experience as conductors and brass band teachers.

Auburn’s performance was filmed on October 21, 2023, with LED lights attached to orchestra members’ hats synchronized with the music. Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Master of Puppets,” “Nothing Else Matters” and “Enter Sandman” will be featured during the show.
