VIDEO | Selevko, who won a historic bronze medal at EC: I’m in the best shape of my life

“I am incredibly happy because I finally managed to skate up to my abilities. The most surprising thing is that I was nervous as usual before skating. And it turned out to be the best night of my career. It seems that I am in the best shape of my life,” Selevko, who won the so-called small medal as the first Estonian figure skater, told Delfi.ru correspondent in Kaunas.

Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa won the short program with 94.12, followed by Swiss Lukas Britschg with 91.17 points. Before Wednesday, Aleksandr Selevko’s personal best score was 83.58 points. “When I saw that I had scored 90 points, I was shocked – there is no other way to describe it. Aleksandr Selevko’s previous best placing in major competitions dates back to 2021, when he was 16 at the World Cup, and he had achieved the same place at the European Championships a year earlier. But this time the student of Irina Kononova and Katerina Kalenda even medaled before the free program. According to Selevko, preparing for the EC was not at all painless.

“I had leg problems. Due to an injury I couldn’t participate in the Estonian championships approach Have Lutz’u jump correctly. But I have both jumps scheduled for the free program on Friday. The main goal is to skate cleanly on Friday and I have to control my nerves,” she said.

Mihhail Selevko, Alexander’s younger brother, scored 60.09 points in the short program, giving him 30th place out of 32 men. You can’t access his free plan.

Estonians like the ice in the Kaunas hall, which has received criticism from some skaters. “My brother and I have discussed and we are of the opposite opinion, that this ice is very comfortable for us and this gray is excellent,” Aleksandr said. I am very happy to be able to come here with my brother. It was the first time in EC history that two brothers represented the same country in the men’s competition. It was a great feeling, even though we often compete in the same competitions and we got used to it.”
