What to do when Polish doctors graft a non-existent lesion twice? Heath: It came like a bolt from the blue! – Soccernet.ee

In football, transfers interrupted at the last moment always happen. But such that the club already gives an official hint about the arrival of a new player and then the deal is still pending, much less often. However, goalkeeper Karl-Romet Nõmm had to experience such disappointment in Poland.

Premier League club Zaglebie Sosnowiec published a fairly unambiguous post on social media on June 30, referring to Nõmme’s arrival. Unfortunately, there was no final confirmation, because at the last moment the local doctors discovered a “problem” with the shoulder, so it was decided to forego the services of the 25-year-old Estonian. Except… actually, there’s nothing wrong with Nõmme’s left shoulder. At least according to him, as well as according to Kaspar Rõivassepa, the physiotherapist of the Estonian footballers.

“Funny and silly at the same time… or I don’t know what the right word would be here. One side has an opinion and the other side has another opinion,” Nõmm rewinds a bit. “It was found that there is a problem with the shoulder. I had an MRI, I proved with everything that there is no problem. They remained faithful to the fact that there is. In this sense I respect it, but I am I came to Estonia right away and the first thing I did was go to Kaspar. He said everything is fine, okay. What a stupid story,” Nõmm can’t help but sigh.

Was ordered to unpack at home

However, he has not yet lost hope in a foreign deal. “Until mid-September the suitcase was always ready in the middle of the room. In the end the girl put a bucket in front of it and said I had to unpack it!” laughs Nõmm. “I also had the hope that something would arrive anyway, as long as some transfer windows were open. According to the agent’s account there were also talks, although not all of them reached me exactly.

But in October, reality hit: It’s been so long. There was also a time… a real black hole, but still a small drop. In the end I came out of it well, I found other outlets for myself. I did other sports I had never practiced before. I played a lot of volleyball and after a long time I also went skiing: I don’t remember the last time! Mentally it was good”, he is satisfied with his ability to turn disadvantages into advantages.

What worried him most, however, was the gravity of the situation. “The break is already quite hard for a footballer. But then it would be a real injury! If, for example, when I was going to Poland I had known and feared that perhaps I would not pass the medical examination… But it happened like a bolt from the blue peaceful. Suddenly, an hour early, when the official news should have arrived! And I went for a medical check-up and everything was fine. All in all, such a… not very pleasant event.”

Two tries, but the same joke

As if the summer setback described wasn’t enough, the same thing happened again a few weeks ago, when Nõmm went to be seen again by his latest employer, Nowy Sacz Sandecja. It was with this club that he signed the first international contract of his life a year ago and fought for the first goalkeeper’s job until the club’s relegation at the end of the season and Nõmm’s departure.

“So one doctor (medical check-up – KJK) went to bed for the same thing. Before Christmas. The same problem in Poland too,” describes Nõmm. “I finished the day doctor‘me, everything was fine after that, but then they said I still had to go to a physiotherapist somewhere. Same topic again… Tough.”

He has now returned home and is looking to sign a contract with Paide, who is conceivable to join the ranks – Ebrima Jarju was in goal for the fourth-placed team last year, but the 25-year-old Gambian is one of the hottest selling items Paide’s promising players, and they want to be ready in any case for his possible departure, as Paide’s sporting director, Gert Kams, also confirmed to Soccernet.ee.

“It’s good for me to finally be able to train somewhere. And it’s also good for Paide to see me. Let’s hope our interests coincide in the end!” Nomm smiles. “Paide has always been a good club. Let’s start working now, watch Herol’s kicks and… I’m very happy to be able to play football!” he concludes with a laugh.
