Gangs in Haiti Launch Coordinated Attacks in Port-au-Prince
In a series of coordinated attacks, gangs in Haiti besieged several neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince, setting homes ablaze and engaging in prolonged gun battles with law enforcement. The violence erupted early Thursday, marking one of the most significant assaults since the recent appointment of Haiti’s new prime minister.
The onslaught commenced late Wednesday in areas such as Solino, Delmas 18, 20, and 24, situated southwest of the main international airport, which has been shuttered for nearly two months due to escalating gang-related turmoil.
Witnesses described the chaos, with one individual named Néne recounting how the gangs indiscriminately set fire to buildings. He shared his harrowing experience of hiding throughout the night, eventually fleeing with only a dusty red suitcase containing his children's clothes.
