Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – One of Brown University’s major donors, billionaire Barry Sternlicht, criticized the campus’ agreement to hold a vote on divestment from Israeli interests.
The real estate mogul said that this made no sense. Sternlicht also said he had stopped donating to Brown University.
Brown University, one of the prestigious universities in the United States, was reportedly the first to reach an agreement with pro-Palestinian protesters.
The students said that companies doing business in Israel or with Israeli organizations were involved in the country’s attacks on Gaza.
Brown protesters are pursuing financial divestment from Israeli interests by selling shares in Israeli companies or severing financial ties.
Because of this, Sternlicht, in an emotional email to The New York Times, said the arrangement was simply sympathy for Hamas, which attacked Israel last October.
