On February 21, the Venezuelan former lieutenant colonel Ronald Ojeda Morenorefugee in Chile, was kidnapped after being taken early in the morning in his underwear from the apartment where he lived in Santiago by people who pretended to be Chilean police officers. Days later his body was found inside a suitcase that had been buried in a neighborhood of the Chilean capital. On May 1, the Chilean channel Meganoticias released the content of an audio of Ojeda, 32, taken from his mobile phone, in which he refers to a secret operation that, supposedly, aimed to overthrow Maduro.
This material reveals that two months before being kidnapped and murdered, the former military man was in Cúcuta, Colombia, on the border with Venezuela. In the recording he is heard confirming that he participated in an operation on the border whose ultimate objective was to remove Maduro from power.
Ronald Ojeda Moreno was 32 years old.
“Damn, yes brother, frustrating because a pretty big job was done, well, and look, a small mistake that is being paid for quite dearly really put everything at risk. And well, thank God I was able to get out. But damn, my captain was captured but well, as you say, frustrating because the goals were not met and no faggot, they worked hard for that,” Ojeda says in the audio to a comrade in arms.
Ojeda was referring to Captain Ányelo Heredia, who was arrested on December 14, 2023 when he was trying to cross a trail from Colombia to Venezuela.
Meganoticias reports that it was a secret trip where Ojeda crossed the Chilean border through steps not authorized to enter and leave the country, between December 2023 and January of this year. “There was indeed a trip to Colombia, specifically in the month of December 2023,” revealed Chilean prosecutor Héctor Barros, who is in charge of the investigations into Ojeda’s murder.
