South Africa Claims $43 Million Worth of Treasure from WWII Shipwreck

A legal dispute over $43 million worth of treasure recovered from a World War II shipwreck has been decided in favor of South Africa, according to the U.K. Supreme Court. The ship, known as the SS Tilawa and often referred to as the “Indian Titanic,” sank off the coast of South Africa in 1942, claiming the lives of 280 people.

The SS Tilawa was carrying 2,364 bars of silver that had been purchased by the Union of South Africa for coin production. For decades, this treasure remained inaccessible on the ocean floor until 2017 when British company Argentum Exploration successfully salvaged it using specialized equipment.

Argentum Exploration claimed ownership over the recovered silve

«Russia’s hybrid war in Europe began before 2014»

“Russia’s hybrid war against us began before 2014,” he explains Paweł Kowal MP of Civic Platformthe center-right party of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, which is part of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Polish Chamber. Kowal says there have already been attempts to sabotage his country’s critical infrastructure. According to the deputy, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin “is preparing for a conflict”: Europe and the West should take countermeasures against “revisionism” and the “new national-populist Comintern” while there is still time.

What should Kiev’s allies do at this stage?
«
The security of Ukraine is, in fact, the security of all of Europe. I follow the data on how Russia is preparing for war. These are preparations for a conflict with the West, not just NATO. Stop fooling yourself. We will only be able to sleep peacefully if Russia loses this war. What we must do is strengthen the potential of European nations and NATO and, on this basis, build new synergies with the United States. Otherwise we won’t make it. Both we and the US must support Kiev by sending weapons and work to allocate frozen Russian assets to the purchase of weapons and then to the reconstruction of Ukraine, so that any potential aggressor thinks twice before trying to change the borders by force. Europe must also invest in the defense sector. It is cheaper to do it now than to fight a war with Russia in a few years.”

The Financial Times has recently documented sabotage orchestrated by Russia in Europe. Has Poland suffered any?
«Many think that the hybrid war against us began in 2014, but there are credible reasons to believe that Moscow has been waging it since at least the 2008 attack on Georgia. Incidentally, the first attack on Georgia occurred in 1992. The Kremlin did not hesitate to bribe European politicians, as demonstrated by the projects for the construction of the Nordstream gas pipeline. Today, our cybersecurity experts continue to block Russian attacks on our critical infrastructure, such as railroads and power plants. Every day, disinformation specialists encounter attempts to sow discord and influence the processes of decision making in EU member states. The latter were di

Suspected attacker caught after attack on Giffey

Berlin – The perpetrator probably struck without warning: Berlin’s Senator for Economic Affairs and SPD leader Franziska Giffey was attacked and slightly injured during a business appointment. According to police and prosecutors, a possibly mentally ill man attacked the politician from behind in a library with a bag of unknown contents, hitting her in the head and neck. Giffey then went to a hospital for outpatient treatment; the attacker was initially able to escape.

Less than 24 hours later, police arrested a 74-year-old as the suspected perpetrator on Wednesday. The investigating authorities said there were “evidences of mental illness” in the man. He was already known to the police because of his findings in the area of hate crime. Investigations into his motive were ongoing. His apartment was searched.

The man was due to be brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday. Because of his possible illness, the public prosecutor wanted to have him placed in a psychiatric hospital.

Horror at attack

The attack caused horror in politics just a few days after the brutal attack on SPD politician Matthias Ecke in Dresden. Giffey was a nationally known politician who was the district mayor of Neukölln, the Federal Minister for Family Affairs and the governing mayor of Berlin from 2021 to 2023. “Anyone who attacks politicians is attacking our democracy,” said Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU). “We will n

The Biden Speech: Impact on the Pro-Palestinian Protest Movement in the USA

2024-05-08 15:54:14

The pro-Palestinian protest movement in the USA is trying to force the president to correct course in the Gaza war. In a speech commemorating the Holocaust, Joe Biden made it clear: There is nothing to shake his support for Israel.

In his speech at the Capitol, Biden sticks to his position on the Gaza war.

For days, President Joe Biden remained silent about the pro-Palestinian student protests at American universities. Only when buildings were occupied in New York last week and violent clashes broke out between pro- and anti-Zionist demonstrators in Los Angeles did the American president feel compelled to make a brief statement. “There is a right to protest, but not a right to cause chaos.” Hate and violence have no place in America.

Biden obviously did not want to burn his fingers with a hasty reaction to the sensitive issue in this election year. He has repeatedly described himself as a “Zionist”. Although he increasingly criticizes the harsh actions of the Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, he has so far clearly been on Jerusalem’s side in the fight against Hamas. At the same time, however, he needs the many young voters who do not agree with his actions in the Gaza war.

Support for Israel remains “rock solid”

This made it all the more exciting to see Biden’s speech against anti-Semitism on Tuesday to commemorate the Holocaust. In advance, Kenneth Roth, the former director of the human rights organization Human Rights Watch, called for via the short message service X, that, on the one hand, Biden should condemn “real” anti-Semitism. On the other hand, he must also criticize its instrumentalization to suppress legitimate criticism of Israel.

But Roth and probably many other left-wing listeners were largely disappointed. The hatred of Jews did not begin with the Nazi regime’s Holocaust and did not end with it, Biden said at the Capitol. “This hatred remains deeply anchored in the hearts of far too many people around the world.” That’s why we have to remain vigilant and speak out against anti-Semitism again and again. “This hatred was brought to life on October 7, 2023, when the terrorist organization Hamas brought the bloo
