Yana Toom finances the lawsuits of expelled agents of influence hostile to Estonia. “This is the essence of a functioning democracy”

With Toomi’s support, Paljamar filed two lawsuits against the Estonian state and also sent a letter to the European Court of Human Rights. “I financially support his litigation. This means that I will pay the invoices submitted by the lawyers. The amount currently amounts to 1,646 euros,” Toom explained to Eesti Päevaleh.

“The deportation of stateless persons (stateless persons – ed.) is not permitted under international law, and since more than 60,000 non-citizens live in Estonia, who sometimes also travel, it is in the interest of all of them that the circumstances of Zoja’s deportation will be assessed by the court”, argued the MEP.

Paljamar is not the only person deported on the basis of hostility towards Estonia to whom Toom gave money. “With my personal funds I support people’s judicial proceedings both through charity and when the issue is politically sensitive and, in my opinion, needs to be resolved in court and the person himself does not have such an opportunity,” Toom explained.
