The Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces visited the Eastern Front in Ukraine

Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces, General Per Micael Bydén, visited units of the 45th separate artillery brigade fighting on the Eastern Front in Ukraine, the UNIAN portal reported on Sunday.

During the meeting, Bydén spoke with Ukrainian artillerymen and infantrymen trained in Sweden and highly appreciated their work, the brigade wrote on social media.

During the visit, the general asked whether the training received by the Ukrainians in Sweden had been useful. The Ukrainian army responded that it began to apply its capabilities from the first days on the battlefield.

Bydén met with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov on Wednesday, with whom the possibility of supplying Gripen fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces was discussed.

According to the general, the issue of supplying fighter aircraft to Ukraine is being discussed at both the political and military levels.

At the same time, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat said on Sunday that consultations are currently underway with Sweden regarding the transfer of Gripens to Ukraine.

Institute: Russian forces seek to seize the initiative in Ukraine ahead of presidential elections

Russian forces are actively organizing offensive operations in Ukraine to seize the initiative ahead of the presidential elections in March, the International Institute for Military Studies writes in its review.

Analysts note that Russian forces continue their offensive despite difficult autumn and winter weather conditions, but it is unclear whether this will allow significant progress to be made in the near future. According to observers, the winter weather slowed the Russian advance and increased Russian losses.

Ukrainian forces use the winter and the period of Russian offensive operations to create and strengthen defensive positions in those parts of the front where Ukraine has not yet launched a counteroffensive.

Zelensky went to the inauguration ceremony of the president of Argentina

“On his way to Argentina to attend the inauguration of the newly elected President Javier Milei, Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with the Prime Minister of the Greenland Islands, José Ulisses Correia e Silva,” the Office of the Ukrainian President said in a statement.

Zelenskyi congratulated Mile after his election victory and thanked him for his clear support for Ukraine.

Milei’s office said after the telephone conversation that he had offered Argentina to host the Ukraine-Latin America summit.

According to Russian news agencies, the Russian ambassador to Argentina, Dmitri Feoktistov, will also be present at Milei’s inauguration ceremony.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia “took note of numerous statements made by Javier Milei during the election campaign” but would judge him by statements he makes after taking office as head of state.

Milei’s inauguration will be attended by, among others, King Felipe VI of Spain, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Paraguayan Head of State Santiago Peña, Uruguay leader Luis Lacalle Pou and Chilean President Gabriel Boric.
