A young man from Elva saved a tree known as the symbol of the city from a load of tons of snow

The Arbimäe pine, known as the symbol of the city of Elva, threatened to break under the enormous snow load. Concerned residents of Elva announced on social media that the tree should be freed from snow as soon as possible so that it does not break like many other trees.

“I had just entered the room from the courtyard, I was clearing the snow from the trees around my house. I looked at Facebook and a photo of the Elva pine came up. I read the comments and it said that it would be possible to clear the snow from the tree so it wouldn’t break,” says the 17-year-old Priit Siimann, who offered his help without hesitation. “I immediately wrote that I could help with this. I took the throwing rope and harness and started walking there. When we arrived there was a crowd. They started to see how I could cut down this tree without a forklift. The work wasn’t hard at all, in fact it was fun. I enjoyed clearing that tree and now I think the damage would have been serious if the snow had remained there,” says Priit.
