“It’s not every day you get a call from Imre Arakas, who is called an international hitman. But that’s exactly what happened to me. Hi, can you meet?” asks presenter Katrin Lust Araka, who has spent the last ten months in a preventive prison in Lithuania, via video call.
A Lithuanian prison in Vilnius allows inmates to make video calls, and that’s where Arakas’ voice is heard. “No, I can’t see, but at least I can hear,” Arakas replies.
During the conversation, Arakas tells his version of events and explains how his name is linked to the reputation of an international assassin. The man denies all charges brought against him by the Lithuanian police. In the show he says that he was in Spain for a friend’s birthday at the time of Bugavičius’ murder. Now, in his own words, they are trying to charge Araka with another attempted murder and one murder, for a total of three felonies.
Imre Arakas was also part of the Irish organized criminal gang Kinahan, for whose members the American government placed a bounty of fifteen million dollars. The show examines Arakas’ involvement with criminal gangs in Ireland and Lithuania and investigates his alleged role in preparing the hit-and-run murder.
