According to Kristina Kallas, Märten Ross is not suitable for the board of the unemployment fund Economy

Minister of Education and vice-president of Estonia 200, Kristina Kallas, sent a letter to her party colleague, Minister of Economy, Tiit Riisalo, asking him to consider whether Märten Ross, the current advisor for foreign relations of the Ministry of Finance, is suitable as a member of the Council of the Unemployment Insurance Fund, to replace Sven Kirsipuud, Vice Chancellor of Budget Policy of the Ministry of Finance, who leaves the Council.

According to the law, the Council of the Unemployment Insurance Fund includes a representative of the Central Union of Trade Unions, a representative of the employee unions, two representatives of the employers, ex officio the Minister of Economy and a person appointed by the government .

Sven Kirsipuu, who was a member of the board of the unemployment fund as a representative of the government, wanted to resign from his position as a member of the board. “My departure from the boards is related to the desire to free up my busy schedule to address critical issues and developments. I would not like to comment on future plans at the moment,” Kirsipuu said.

According to the Ministry of Economy’s plan, the post left vacant by Kirsipuus could be filled by Märten Ross, advisor for foreign relations at the Ministry of Finance. According to the draft decree of the Ministry of Economy, Ross meets the requirements established for a member of the board and has also given his consent to become a member of the board.

Now the appointment of Ross as a member of the Unemployment Fund Board is opposed by Education Minister Kristina Kallas, who doubts whether Ross is important enough to serve as a member of the Unemployment Fund Board.

“Taking into account the level of representation of organizations in the Board of the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, for example the Ministry of Economy and Communications is represented by a minister, we propose to consider an official with a higher position as a representative of the ministry “, Kalla wrote in a letter to Economy Minister Tiit Riisalo.

Märten Ross previously worked in various positions at Eesti Pank, including as vice president. Ross also served for many years as Under Secretary for Financial Policy and Foreign Affairs at the Treasury Department and currently serves as Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Treasury Department.

Kaia Vask, head of the Central Union of Trade Unions, is currently chairman of the Board of the Unemployment Insurance Fund. In addition to Riisalo, who is part of it by position, and Kirsipuu, chosen by the government, Arto Aas, head of the Central Union of Employers, Aaro Lode, head of Balitc Restaurants Estonia, and Madis Iganõmm, member of the board, also belong of the Central Union of Servites.
