As the best Estonian, Maasik took 47th place in the EC | cross-country race Athletics

Five Estonian runners participated in the European cross-country championships which took place on Sunday 10 December at Laeken Park in Brussels. Laura Maasik achieved the best result.

Maasik finished the 9 km distance with a time of 37.40, good enough for 47th place among the 53 competitors who arrived. Norwegian runner Karoline Bjerkel Grövdal was crowned European champion for the third time in a row, crossing the finish line in a time of 33:40. Also in the top three positions are the Italian Nadia Battocletti (34.25) and the British Abbie Donnelly (34.42).

Kaur Kivistik finished 66th in the men’s 9km distance with a time of 33:07. Frenchman Yann Schrub became the winner with a time of 30:17, Norwegian Magnus Tuv Myhre came second with a time of 30.20, and Belgian Robin Hendrix was two seconds behind him.

Oliver Annus finished the U-23 category race over the 7km distance in 75th place with a time of 28:28. Britain’s Will Barnicoat became European champion with a time of 23:42, France’s Valentin Bresc came second with the same time, and the bronze medal was earned by Britain’s Matthew Stonier with a time of 23:51.

Mari Mai Ruus placed 61st in the women’s 5km distance in the U20 category with a time of 21:25. The winner was Britain’s Innes Fitzgerald with a time of 18:19. Among young people in the same age group, Morten Siht ranked 70th with a time of 18:32. The winner was the Danish Axel Vang Christensen (16.09), who beat the Dutch Niels Laros by one second.
