Belgium supports Ukraine with revenue from frozen Russian assets

Belgium will provide military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 611 million euros from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, the media reported on Tuesday with reference to the Ministry of Defense.

This help was promised by Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder in a telephone conversation on Tuesday with her Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov.

“In response to an inquiry on Tuesday, Dedonder’s office confirmed the amount of 611 million euros, explaining that these are proceeds obtained from Russian assets frozen in Belgium,” the newspaper La Libre Belgique reported.

The newspaper notes that the amount was officially indicated for the first time by a Belgian minister.

Umerov also confirmed on social media that he had a telephone conversation with Dedonder about military aid. Furthermore, the ministers also discussed Belgium’s participation in the training of Ukrainian military pilots.

Kuleba: Western allies do not supply enough ammunition to Ukraine

Western allies do not supply enough ammunition and anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview published by German media on Tuesday.

Russia’s attacks on Kiev and Kharkiv on Tuesday “clearly show the need to provide more air defense systems, as well as more surface-to-air missiles,” Kuleba said in an interview with Die Welt, Bild, Welt TV and Politico.

As for ground warfare, “inadequacy of artillery ammunition has been a problem from the beginning,” he noted.

According to Kuleba, he is still in negotiations with the German government to obtain Taurus cruise missiles, even though a week ago the lower house of the German parliament voted against the supply of these missiles to Ukraine.

He dismissed concerns raised in Germany that Ukraine could use the missiles to attack Moscow or other locations in Russia, saying they were needed to destroy Russian military infrastructure behind front lines in occupied Ukrainian territories.

Kuleba gave the interview after the meeting of the contact group on aid to Ukraine, i.e. the Ramstein format.

Canada announced a new military aid package to Ukraine

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced on Tuesday a new military aid package to Ukraine totaling around 20 million Canadian dollars (13.7 million euros).

According to the Canadian Ministry of Defence, the aid package includes, among other things, 10 multipurpose boats from Zodiac Hurricane Technologies. These boats can be used for search and rescue operations, for transporting military personnel and equipment, as well as for surveillance and reconnaissance.

Canada will deliver the boats and train its crews by late spring.

Germany supports Ukraine with military helicopters for the first time

Germany is supporting Ukraine with military helicopters for the first time, media reported on Tuesday with reference to the German Ministry of Defense.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius promised Ukraine six Sea King Mk41 multipurpose helicopters, spare parts kits and crew training.

The Sea King is a reliable helicopter that helps Ukrainians in several areas: from reconnaissance over the Black Sea to transporting military personnel, he noted.

“This is the first German delivery of this kind,” Pistorius said.

Zelensky: 18 people were killed and 130 injured in Russian attacks

At least 18 people were killed and 130 injured in Russian attacks in Ukraine on Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced.

He warned that the death toll could rise further as rescue efforts were still underway.

“Unfortunately, 18 people were killed,” Zelenskiy said in his evening speech, adding that at least 130 were wounded and injured.

The president noted that the city of Kharkiv had been hit hard and “the death toll could rise.”
