The 19th BSBC tournament ended today, when the youth teams of Estonia and Latvia and their peers from Finland and Sweden faced each other. Unfortunately, today all four of our youth teams had to accept defeat. The closest to victory was the U16 men’s team, who played an excellent tournament and were leading by five points with 3 minutes left, but still had to accept defeat 78:85.

Boys U16 Estonia – Latvia 78:85. It was a balanced match, in the end the Latvians were luckier and with this they also won and placed first in the tournament. The Estonian boys, who played an excellent tournament, came second, the Swedes came third, while the Finns, who only admitted defeats, came fourth. Roman Avdejev, MVP of the Estonian team’s tournament. Coach Brett Nõmme’s comment: “Latvia was a slightly different team from Finland or Sweden. We fought bravely, but some stupid solutions cost us the match, but on the other hand it is understandable that we are dealing with Young guys. In any case, we have a potential punt.”

Girls U16 Estonia vs Latvia 43:102. A definitive defeat for Estonia, the Latvians were more physical and dominated under the basket. Table fight 58:30 for Latvia. Team tournament MVP Jessica Ristimets was also our leading scorer with 13 points. Coach Esko Tõnisson: “Physically we fell behind, the battles at the table and turnovers are our concern. We will have to work a lot on this in the summer.”

Boys U18 Estonia vs Latvia 53:68. Slightly better throwing and table fighting skills ensured Latvia won the second-third place match of the tournament. 13 points from Marten Alles and 12 points from team tournament MVP Kaur Kennerth Tomann. Latvia’s most successful scorer is Kristers Skrinda with 16 points. The champion of the Nordic countries in the U18 male age group is Finland.

Girls U18 Estonia vs Latvia 47:100. Similar to the U16 girls, the older girls were significantly inferior to the Latvians. Kätlin Kangur scored our best 13 points, Kätlin was also chosen as the best player of the Estonian team tournament. Coach Kaspars Majenieks: “We were ready to fight, but unfortunately we only had the strength for the first half. The aggressiveness of the Latvian women was completely different. Our only chance to be in an important match in the future is to pay much more pay attention to the physical side.”
