CHRISTMAS HOUSE | The shocking story of a cat whose owner lost almost all his teeth and was later scorned by the villagers

It turned out that Vassu’s life full of suffering had not begun at all when he came out, but already when he still had an owner. According to locals, he was repeatedly beaten by his owner: once almost all the teeth were knocked out of the kitten’s mouth. The villagers knew this, but during the ten years that Vassu lived, no one intervened in such violence…

You might think that Vassu’s life improved when the owner left, but the villagers continued to despise him. If the kitten dared to approach anyone, he was immediately scolded and frightened by stamping his feet. In recent years only one woman in the village tried to feed Vassu with his little savings, but Vassu was still completely skin and bones and you could feel all his bones when you caressed him. The people who went to Vassu’s shop were also hungry due to great hunger, but nothing was bought for his table…

Despite all this, Vassu remains an adorable and confident cat, who above all loves cuddles and closeness.

When Tartu Kassikaitse captured Vassu, the cat’s fur was bristly, his tail was frozen and snotty from the previous winter, and drool was constantly flowing from his mouth. In the clinic, it was discovered that Vassu’s mouth and teeth were in such a terrible state that he could no longer chew crackers (for a while he had to eat only canned food). Blood tests revealed that he suffers from iron deficiency anemia, borderline blood sugar levels and moderate inflammation in the body. Furthermore, many other indicators related to the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and kidneys were also abnormal. As if that wasn’t enough, he also had an ear infection and his lymph nodes were very swollen. His fur was very shaggy, so he got a beautiful lion haircut at the clinic. And, of course, Vassu was dehydrated and extremely underweight: he weighed only 3.5 kilograms, even though his normal weight would be around five kilograms.

Now it has been discovered that Vassu also suffers from IBD, an intestinal inflammation, which cannot be cured, but can be well controlled with medications. Vassu desperately needs a foster home (his current one can no longer hold him) or better yet, a real home. A place where the kitten can forget the experiences of his previous life and enjoy retirement with dignity. Maybe you have a warm place for him on your couch?
