“The Sisters of Savvusanna” is a modern, intimate film about women who gather in the protective darkness of a smoke sauna, share their deepest secrets, and wash away the shame and pain accumulated in their bodies. The film also introduces the smoke sauna tradition of ancient Võroma (“savvisannakombõ”), which is included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The director and screenwriter of the film “Savvusanna’s Sisters” is Anna Hints. The producer is Marianne Ostrat (Alexandra Film, Estonia), the co-producers are Juliette Cazanave (Kepler22 Productions, France), Hlín Jóhannesdóttir (Ursus Parvus Island) and Eero Talvistu † (Estonia).
