DELPHI TO BRUSSELS | Breakthrough! The European Union has decided to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova

According to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas it is difficult to argue. Before the European Council, the mood of both Kallas and others was pessimistic, and it was rather expected that Ukraine would be rejected. “It is important for us that this decision was made,” Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said.

Kallas reported what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who opposed the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine, said. According to the man, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is the only one who can teach him this at the table of state leaders. “I fought here against the Russians when you were I don’t know where and you were doing I don’t know what,” Kallas paraphrased his colleague.

According to Kallas, Estonia was a staunch supporter of the accession of Ukraine and Moldova. “The unity of the European Union remains and we can look the candidates in the eye, because they are being considered,” the Prime Minister said. “In the brutal war that has lasted for almost two years, it is necessary to give hope to the Ukrainian people. At the same time, they have done an incredibly good job in fulfilling the conditions set by the EU, and the invitation faithfully reflects that progress. And the European Union is certainly not the only step on the way to help Ukraine, it must also become a member of NATO, the most powerful defense alliance in the world,” he added.
