“There is something very beautiful and touching when people who love each other work together,” says the French director and screenwriter of Vietnamese origin Trần Anh Hùng, who put this idea into his film Flavors of Life.

Trần Anh Hùng’s poetic film The Flavors of Life, set in 1885, is a hymn to food and love. France nominated it for the Oscar in the best international film category, the film premiered in Estonia in this year’s PÖFF subprogram “Screen International critics’ choice” (now the film is also in our cinemas). At the Cannes Film Festival in May, where we met Trần Anh Hùng (60) for an interview, “Tastes of Life” won the award for best director.
