Enefit Green has built a solar farm on the tailings hill near the Estonia Economy mine

Enefit Green, a subsidiary of Eesti Energia, has opened a 3 megawatt solar park in Ida-Virumaa.

A solar park with over 9,000 panels supplies electricity to Enefit Power’s Estonian mine. The solar park is built on an old settling hill 27 meters high. The company invested 2.7 million euros in the construction of the solar park.

“The basic facade is built with a southward slope, which creates a situation where we have minimized losses due to shading. If the sun is lower, shading does not hide the subsequent rows of panels. Since it is sloped, there is more space and the distances between the rows are also larger. And so this solar park is also much more efficient than other normal solar parks,” said Elise Johanna Lill, project manager for renewable energy at Enefit Green.
