Võrumaa handicrafts and agricultural products have reached the National Assembly for exhibition and sale

Crafts and agricultural products from Võru County arrived on Tuesday at the State Assembly in Toompea Castle, where a pre-Christmas exhibition-sale will be held until Wednesday.

The tradition began 23 years ago and so far only one exhibition-sale has been cancelled. Exhibition sales were held several times in the joint ministries building in addition to the Riigikogu building.

According to Tiit Toots, board member of the Võrumaa Development Centre, the sales exhibition offers artisans and food producers from Võru County a unique platform to present their products for sale. However, according to Toots, this is a great opportunity for Riigikogu members to purchase Christmas gifts.

The exhibition-sale was declared open by the president of the Riigikogu, Lauri Hussar. The hussar, who has roots in Võrumaa, indicated in his welcome speech that the tradition will be kept alive in the future and that in three years it will already be a quarter of a century old. “You bring us snow and you also bring the Christmas spirit,” he said, adding that in his opinion Võru county has the most Christmas spirit.

He did not consider the visit of representatives of the local government of Võru County to Tallinn to be less important than the sale of the exhibition. “I am very happy that together with the craftsmanship, local government leaders of Võru County always come to Riigikogu to discuss with Riigikogu members and find solutions for the development of Võru County,” Hussar said.

In addition to the fact that all Riigikogu members and ministry employees can purchase various products from Võru County for a total of three days, all 101 Riigikogu members received a jar of honey as a gift from craftsmen and food producers from Võru County. Võru.

The collection of artisanal, thrift and agricultural products was carried out by Võrumaa Arenduskeskus, Uma Mekk Food Network, Seto Käsitüy Kogo, Vana-Võromaa Käsitüü and Seto Küük.
