What kind of life did Konrad Mägi, one of the Estonian classics, lead? Joonas Sildre has collected and examined all the material relating to Konrad Mägi. As a result of extensive research, the graphic novel “Varviline Mägi” was completed, in which Joonas translated Konrad’s artistic path into pictorial language.
Where does Konrad Mägi come from? Why was he interested in various spiritual and esoteric practices? What was the artist looking for in St. Petersburg or Paris? How many works has he painted in total? Did success, fame and money come during Mägi’s lifetime or was he appreciated after his death? Why do Estonians like his paintings?
All these questions will be discussed in the show.
Additionally, Joonas Sildre drew and wrote another graphic novel based on his biography, titled “Between Two Sounds” and tells the story of Arvo Pärt. In many ways, according to Joonas, Pärt and Mägi can be considered complete opposites. Because that’s how it is?
