» Tallinn has made the kindergarten fee exemption more family-friendly

In Tallinn families where several children attend kindergarten at the same time, the tourist tax exemption applies starting from the second child. If until now there was an obligation that according to the registry office the address of the child and the parent must be the same address, from the new year the requirements will be simplified and it will be sufficient that both the parent and the children are residents of Tallinn.

Deputy mayor Andrei Kante according to him, the tourist tax exemption has been in force in the capital since the second son for almost two years. “You still need to apply to be exempt from the tuition fee, but we have made applying for and receiving benefits more family-friendly and flexible. The previous requirement that the applying parent live at the same address as the child has caused disagreements. Since it is an exemption from the tax and not an award of a sum of money to one parent or the other, it does not matter which parent applies and gets the exemption,” Kante explained.

To be exempt from paying the nursery school fee starting from the second child, the parent and the children in question must have a permanent residence in Tallinn both in the year of the maintenance request and as of 31 December of the previous year according to the population register.

If previously a parent had to apply for one or more children attending nursery school and a child attending or waiting for a place in a corresponding or special group each school year, from January one application is sufficient until the child starts study at school or until the deadline specified by the recommendation of the extracurricular counseling team.

More information about discounts in Tallinn nurseries can be found on the city’s website.
