German opposition politician founded new political party | foreign country

Prominent German opposition politician Sahra Wagenknecht officially launched a new party on Monday that combines left-wing economic policies with a restrictive approach to immigration and other positions that observers say could draw votes from the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD). .

Wagenknecht said his “Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice” will make its electoral debut in June’s European Parliament elections.

According to Wagenknecht, it is certain that the party will also participate in the September elections in the three eastern Länder, where the AfD enjoys broad support.

In October Wagenknecht left the Left Party, of which he had long been a leading figure, and announced his intention to create a new party. Wagenknecht and the nine like-minded people who left the Left Party with him remained in parliament.

The new party offers a mix of left-wing economic policies with high wages and generous social benefits.

Wagenknecht also questioned environmentalists’ plans to fight climate change, current sanctions against Russia and the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
