Goodbye lithium? There is a revolution underway in battery technology, driven by artificial intelligence

Advances in artificial intelligence are revolutionizing battery technology, making it more environmentally friendly and efficient. This opinion is expressed by specialists from Microsoft Corporation, involved in the development of artificial intelligence, writes Independent.

It should be noted that the company analyzed more than 32 million substances with the help of artificial intelligence, which could form the basis for a new generation of batteries. Eventually several thousand suitable materials would be found. Their tests continue.

A battery made from these materials is said to require 70% less lithium, which is an expensive metal and very harmful to the environment. Microsoft notes that, first of all, this is a big step forward for artificial intelligence, which has proven its suitability for scientific and technical discoveries in a very short time.

Last year, Microsoft released a new program, Azure Quantum Elements, designed specifically to apply artificial intelligence to scientific discoveries. It is already used by pharmaceutical companies to test new substances.

Microsoft said it focused its research on batteries because they are so necessary in modern day-to-day life. Furthermore, it is important for the development of promising technologies such as driverless vehicles, etc.

A research paper describing the work, “Accelerating computational discovery with artificial intelligence and cloud-based high-performance computing: From large-scale screening to experimental validation,” was published on arXiv.
