He did not keep his promise to leave Russia: the Swedish royal family stopped cooperation with a famous confectionery brand in Estonia

The Royal Household announced in a comment sent to Swedish media that the contract with Marabou ended last year and the Royal Household equipment department decided not to renew it.

Marabou, very common in the Nordic countries, came into focus last year when it was revealed that their US parent company, Mondelez, had been blacklisted from Ukraine. The reason is that confectionery giant Modelez still does a lot of business in Russia. After the decision at the time, several retail chains in Sweden, for example, stopped selling Mondelez brands. The Swedish national transport company SJ, the airline SAS and the Swedish Defense Forces have also stopped working with the company.

Mondelez itself announced last year that it would eliminate Russian operations from the rest of the company by the end of the year, but as of January 1, the Russian operations had not been closed or sold. According to the latest estimates, in 2022, for example, Mondelez paid more than $60 million in taxes due to its activities in Russia.

For the rest, the Swedish royal family collaborates with around 130 different brands.

Marabou chocolates are also widely sold in Estonia and can be found in practically every chain store.
