High school student of Tallinn English College: I fear that with the strike there may be a Vita herd effect

In the program “Hommik Anuga”, three students from different schools in Tallinn visited the village, waiting for the strike that will begin soon.

Elli Tamm, a ninth grade student at Kaarli School, said in the “Hommik Anuga” program that she is happy to go to school. “I like it there, we have very nice and funny teachers, we have nice company and I also like studying,” he said, stressing that, although he also attended school in Tenerife, he still likes the Estonian school system very much. .

“I like the fact that teachers in Estonia care more about our grades and if things go wrong, they offer consultations, help us so we can improve our grades, but if you get a bad grade in Spain, there’s no it was nothing I could do,” he said, adding that the quality of education in Estonia also seems better.

Ekke Henk, a 10th grade student at Gustav Adolf High School, said teachers could and should receive higher pay. “It’s just a question of where to get the money,” she said, noting that it’s not an easy problem. “But I hope that our country is led by people who can find some kind of solution,” Henk said, noting that the thing most feared now is graduating from high school. “They have exams coming up, they are wasting a lot of much-needed studying time for them.”

Sander Laas, a seventh grade student at Tallinn English College, said he himself is not very worried about losing anything because of the strike. “It’s actually just home schooling, it’s the same as him during the coronavirus,” he explained, adding that he rather fears the strike will have a herd effect. “The strike should be an activity where each teacher thinks individually about whether she wants to do it and whether she needs to, but I fear the effect will be that, because everyone else is striking, I will go too.”

“I strongly ask all teachers to think about it personally before going on strike,” Laas said.
