In Tartu county, near Kambja, a chain reaction occurred involving five vehicles, five people were injured. There’s been a traffic jam for miles

The emergency center received a report of the accident at the 198th kilometer of the Tallinn-Tartu-Võru-Luhamaa road at 2.49 pm.

The Tartu division’s field director, Tarmo Säälik, told Delphi that, according to preliminary information, five vehicles collided there: a Volvo, a Peugeot, a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, a Škoda and a Volkswagen.

Five people were injured in the collapse of the chain, including a child. All of them were taken to hospital.

The road at the scene is snowy, slippery and windy. Police urge all road users to exercise caution. “Weather and road conditions are difficult and driving speed must be reduced when traveling in such conditions,” Säälik noted. “Please turn on your daytime running lights, avoid sudden maneuvers and keep your distance.”

One direction of travel at the accident site is still closed to traffic, cars plying there are being diverted via Pangodi. Police advise avoiding this area if possible, as there is traffic jam for miles.
