Israel threatened Hezbollah, which launches fire from Lebanon

Gantz announced that time is running out to find a diplomatic solution, BBC News reports.

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi announced that the forces are “highly ready” for military action in the north.

“Our first task is to restore safety and a sense of security for the people of the north, and that will take time,” Halevi said.

Cross-border firefights on the Lebanese-Israeli border have intensified following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. Yesterday Hezbollah carried out the largest number of cross-border attacks since October 8. This has raised concerns that the conflict in Gaza could escalate.

“The situation on Israel’s northern border requires change,” Gantz said at a press conference last night. “The clock is ticking for a diplomatic solution. If the world and the Lebanese government do not act to prevent the firing on the people of northern Israel and push Hezbollah across the border, the Israel Defense Forces will.”

The Gaza-led Hamas Ministry of Health said today that at least 50 people were killed in Israeli shelling this morning in Beit Lahia, Khan Yunis and the Maghazi refugee camp.
