It is known that he had never suffered from corona before. “This time, however, the corona hit me hard,” says Piret, as first came the weakness, then the headache. Only later did fever and cough, runny nose appear. The worst thing was the headache, which made suffering particularly difficult. “I have never had headaches like this before in my life. This disassembly was next level. It felt like the skull was pressing on the brain from all sides,” he recalls of what he experienced. When my head started to hurt at night, my sleep was also irregular, which did not allow me to rest properly. He felt very weak and tired for a week after the illness disappeared.
Even young, healthy adults can become seriously ill from corona. What causes the fact that some get more seriously ill than others?

For example, several genetic studies were conducted on young patients requiring hospital care and it was discovered that some people have genetic variations that reduce the body’s resistance to such diseases. Another aspect is life choices. In Europe, smoking among young people has been declining for years, but on the other hand the use of electronic cigarettes has gained popularity. In the studies, more severe symptoms and a greater need for hospitalization were observed for both. Smoking is also considered a major cause of severe symptomatic COVID-19 in young, healthy people. E-cigarettes and smoking damage the respiratory tract and therefore the symptoms of COVID-19 manifest themselves more acutely. Furthermore, the body’s overall immune capacity decreases after chronic nicotine use.
