Jakob Rosin: I would eliminate the revolving doors immediately | People

“Prillitoos” investigated together with the blind journalist Jakob Rosina how accessible different places in our urban space are for people with disabilities. Among other things, Rosin confirmed that there is less malice and that people still tend to help

Jakob Rosin said the issue of accessibility is not just about people with disabilities. “Some people are too short, some are too tall, some can’t use their hands because they broke their wrist in the snow in winter,” he explained and added that there are many things he would change in our living environment. “Revolving doors are the first thing I would get rid of right away, because try going through them if you walk too fast, too slow, or can’t see very well.”

According to Rosina, one of the main questions is how to create an urban environment. “I like to say that accessibility means that our world must be perceptible with more senses, for example, if you make a nice drawing on the asphalt, you can also feel it under your feet,” he said, adding that another important part concerns the sounds in the city. “It’s important for people with hearing impairments to notice surrounding sounds, such as car horns or sirens, but if the noise is terribly loud, it’s difficult to hear anything.”

Rosin confirmed that there is less malice and that people still tend to help. “There was one occasion where I asked a person for the bus number and he gave me the wrong number, and I still don’t know if he did it by distraction or on purpose.”
