Joosep Järvesaar: The name Bedwetters is a blessing and a curse at the same time Music

In the program “Hommik Anuga”, Joosep Järvesaar, frontman of the band Bedwetters, confirmed that the MTV Europe Music Awards and the award won are a day that will never be forgotten.

Joosep Järvesaar said that Bedwetters are the stupidest names one could come up with for a band. “It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time,” he explained, adding that while the Estonian translation of Bedwetters is entertaining, it has always attracted attention abroad as well. “Also, Snoop Dogg, when we first saw him at the MTV EMAs, had red eyes, like always, and said don’t piss on my face.”

According to Järvesaare, the MTV European Music Awards, where Bedwetters won the New Sounds Of Europe award in 2007, are Radio 2’s hit of the year. “There’s only Coldplay instead of Traffic and Amy Winehouse instead of Anne Veski ,” he said, noting that Nicole Scherzinger was also there, for example. “A day you will never forget.”

Financially, this victory was not directly beneficial for them, but according to band member Mihkel Mõttus it opened up many opportunities for them. “We performed at all the biggest festivals in the Baltics and for a pretty decent fee,” he explained, pointing out that at the time they received 60,000 crowns for a concert. Järvesaar pointed out that the best Estonian bands of the time received 15,000 to 20,000 crowns for a concert, but received many times more.

Afterwards they all lived together in a two-story apartment on Kunderi Street in Tallinn. “On behalf of the owner of the apartment I would still like to apologize for what we did there,” Järvesaar said and added that they did not directly break anything, but it was moral damage. “If five 18-year-olds lived together in the same apartment, it could become a reality show.”

Thanks to this they also made contacts in Europe, but in reality “Dramatic Letter to Conscience” was their first high-quality single, which brought the victory, explained drummer Karl-Kristjan Kingi. “We had nothing else: the single, this award and a group of tough kids who were just learning to play an instrument,” he said, adding that the following summer they locked themselves in a rehearsal room and did eight hours of music every day. “We prepared the material for our first album there, and we also went to Sweden to record it.”

According to King, expectations thereafter were very high, but they fell short. “We also worked hard to make this album, but he remained exactly as he remained,” he said, admitting that they were too young for all that at the time.
