Kadri Voorand: There are many more Christmas carols than you think Vita

This year the vocal ensemble Estonian Voices will hold a concert tour of Estonian churches during the holidays. In the program “Hommik Anuga” they talked more about their feelings about Christmas and answered a small quiz in which they had to recognize Christmas carols from different countries.

Kadri Voorand said that there are actually many more Christmas carols than people realize. “Whole long lists are presented in shopping malls and I don’t know where, but stories in Estonian and by national authors are closest to our hearts,” she said.

Rasmus Erismaa, member of Estonian Voices, confirmed that there are some churches in Estonia where it is more difficult to perform. “There were a couple of churches we had planned to go to, but the pastor asked to see the program and for some reason decided that some songs were the ones he didn’t want to hear,” he explained and added that their Il Christmas program doesn’t really have particularly crunchy songs.

Mirjam Dede, a member of the ensemble, said she always feels like when December comes, a fairytale begins. “If I can work within this fairy tale, it’s just a pleasure, but we’ve been working hard in December for ages,” he said, adding that if they work at that time, he’s only in the best company.
