Saturday’s Premier League match between Bournemouth and Luton Town was abandoned in the 65th minute after visiting captain Tom Lockyer collapsed for the second time this year.
Elijah Adebayo gave the away team the lead in the third minute of Saturday’s match, Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke equalized in the 58th minute. Luton had just put the ball back into play when their captain Tom Lockyer lay motionless on the grass in his own half.
The players of both teams initially remained on the pitch, but six minutes later they returned to the locker room and the match was officially stopped shortly afterwards. According to the BBC, the Wales international was conscious when he left the pitch on a stretcher.
At the same time, a serious health problem has already affected Lockyer: last May he collapsed during the Premier League match between Luton and Coventry City playoff– in the final. As a result, the centre-back underwent heart surgery, but was allowed to return to action in June.
