The Bulgarian basketball team Botevgrad Balkan was at one point in the season the face of last year’s Viims, because Karl-Johan Lips and the Americans Devin Harris and Malik Toppin played in the team. The last one’s time on the team was rather short.
Although at the beginning of the season the Balkans went from victory to victory in the Bulgarian championship series and in the FIBA European Cup they won group A, in recent weeks the team’s play has dried up. At the end of the last calendar year, the Balkans were fourth in the Bulgarian championship with eight victories and six defeats, while the intermediate round of the FIBA series began with two defeats.
On the penultimate matchday of 2023, the Botevgrad club announced that Petar Zlatanovic, the coach who led the team to the Bulgarian championship last season, was dismissed, while Serbian Nebojsa Knežević took over his duties. Only a few days passed and the new supervisor began to adapt the frills according to his style.
“After the change of coach, the Balkan team made two more changes. After the decision announced in the morning by coach Nebojsa Knežević, legionnaires Devin Harris and Karl-Johan Lips will no longer be part of the team. The club is now looking of new players for these roles”, announced the Bulgarian team on its website.
Lipsu averaged 12 points and five rebounds in 14 Bulgarian Premier League games.
