The Depardieu case has polarized French society. On the one hand, there is a call for an end to the “lynching” and the cancellation of the actor, and it is believed that his actions can only be judged in court. For example, an open letter published in Le Figaro in support of Depardieu was signed by 50 public figures, including former first lady and musician Carla Bruni, as well as famous actresses Charlotte Rampling, Carole Bouquet, Nathalie Baye and Pierre Richa. There was also a more distant reaction: Canada stripped Depardieu of the National Order of Quebec.
