Kertu Moppel about his new production: a person wants to perceive status everywhere | Theater

On December 16, Kertu Moppel’s play “Concern about status” will premiere at Kanuti Gildi Hall. The show is inspired by the turbulent times and crises that surround us.

According to director Kertu Moppel, almost all problems between people can be interpreted as a concern about status.

“Our brains are somehow built in such a way that we want to perceive status everywhere, and it affects us very badly if we perceive ourselves to be on a lower rung of the status ladder than someone else,” Moppel said.

The show is based on Alain de Botton’s 2004 book “Concern for Status”. But the crew of four on stage – Kertu Moppel, Elina Reinold, Lauri Kaldoja and Markus Truup – also contributed to the final result.

“The basis is some statements from the book and also their explanations. We express our opinion about them, we change these sentences and there are cases when we feel that too much has been done or that we have been exalted,” shared actress Elina Reinold . .

“We read together and reflected and told our stories, we learned some really painful things about each other, we shared more than in any other trying time,” he added.

“Concern about the status” will premiere on December 16 at Kanuti Gildi Hall. The show will be performed five times in December, then in February and March.
