Šarunas Jasikevicius returns to the bench | basketball

Istanbul Fenerbahce, who resigned from the position of current coach Dimitris Itoudis on Wednesday, announced that the vacant position will be filled by Lithuanian Šarunas Jasikevicius.

Jasikevicius, 47, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Fenerbahce until the summer of 2026.

Jasikevicius last worked for Spanish top club Barcelona, ​​​​​​from where he was fired in July this year. Under him, Barcelona won two Spanish championships, two Copa del Rey cups and reached the Euroleague final in all three seasons.

The Lithuanian was manager of Žalgiris Kaunas before moving to Barcelona in 2020, leading the club to the Lithuanian championship three times. In 2018, Žalgiris won a bronze medal in the Euroleague under the leadership of Jasikevicius.

Jasikevicius’ first match as Fenerbahce coach will take place on Friday when they face AS Monaco at home in the Euroleague. Fenerbahce are in 12th place with six wins and seven defeats before the 14th round.
