Kristjan Ilves started the first MK stage of the new year with a decent jump, but ultimately did not make the top ten

Lynx aerial flight HS 106 uphill brought 103 meters and earned 136.4 points. Ilves, who descended from the 18th boom, received no boom compensation, but earned 6.4 points as wind compensation.

The best jump was made by Austrian Thomas Rettenegger (105.5 meters, 147.4 points). He was followed by Norwegian ace Jarl Magnus Riiber (105 m, 146.4 p) and compatriots Franz-Josef Rehrl (105 m, 141 p), Johannes Lamparter (102 m, 139.9 p) and Stefan Rettenegger (102 m, 138, 7 days).

Converted into seconds, this means that Thomas Rettenegger entered the track 4 seconds before Riiber, 26 seconds before Rehrl, 30 seconds before Lamparter, 35 seconds before Stefan Rettenegger and 44 seconds before Ilves.

10 km on skis Riiber immediately caught Rettenegger and immediately showed him his ski boots during the first long climb. However, it was not a decisive start: although at mid-race he had an 18.3 second lead over the pursuing Austrian quartet (Rettenegger brothers, Lamparter, Rehrl), he decided to slow down on the third lap, and so Lamparter and Stefan Rettenegger caught the Norwegian at the last lap.

But try as they might, the Austrians couldn’t get rid of Riiber and in the final sprint he once again showed the place to his opponents, taking the 62nd MK stage victory of his career. Lamparter (+1.0) and Stefan Rettenegger (+3.3) crossed the finish line in second place.

Kristjan Ilves did not try to catch up with the Austrians, but joined the next big group. In the final sprint Ilves’ leg wasn’t the brightest and he had to settle for 11th place, losing to Riiber by 56.3 seconds. In front of Ilves, in addition to the first three, Thomas Rettenegger (+36.9), Rehrl (+49.5), the German Vinzenz Geiger (+53.6), the Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro (+53.7), the German Manuel Feisst (+54, 0), Norwegian Jörgen Graabak (+54.4) and German Julian Schmid (+55.0).

In the MK series Riiber is the undisputed leader with 770 points. He follows Lamparter (670 points), Stefan Rettenegger (535), Graabak (532), Schmid (403) and sixth Ilves (391).

A compact race is expected in Oberstdorf on Sunday.
