According to Jaagup, one of his biggest demons over the years has been caring too much about other people’s opinions, and Mihkel Raud also noticed this during the Superstar show: “He once came backstage and said I have a big problem: I care too much about what other people think. And he wasn’t wrong. That’s what I faced in my case.”
“Demon” is my first drum’n’bass song. Over the last two years I’ve started to appreciate this genre more and consequently the idea of making a song with liquid bass also started to germinate. I started tinkering and learning for fun last summer – with this style the approach to producing songs is completely different than, for example, pop music,” explains Jaagup.
Maian joined the group in August 2023. “Once I got the chorus down, I felt a little stuck. Ideally I would have thought it would be great if Maian could have played a role in this story – it has a slight vibe demonic/femme fatale in her. Also, since Maian is also a good songwriter, I knew he could help me further. By the way, we recorded his voice in my kitchen,” Jaagup described the collaboration with Maiani.
According to Maiani, he felt he could bring a completely different writing style to the song to balance Jaagup, as well as a slight polarization: “Jaagup and I are like two far apart and on different waves, but we end up on the same beach.”
Maian added that working with Jaagup was fantastic: “I don’t think any of us expected that we would get along so well and communicate outside of work. For me he is an absolute musical genius, as well as a magician of vista, with whom it is an honor and a pleasure to work.”
