The team was satisfied with the Baltic tournament: we were able to play very aggressively Estonian handball team

The next important matches of the Estonian handball team, which recently played successfully in the Baltic tournament, will take place in mid-March, when they will face Ukraine in the selection series of the World Championship.

Last week the handball team went through hard training at the Baltic Sea tournament, on Saturday the team’s week ended with a test match between them, where the main team met the youth team. As this is the last time the national team is together before the World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine in March, Martin Nodla was able to test his ideas on the pitch and see how they can be implemented in practice.

“We try to be more active in defense, a little higher up the pitch. When we go to play against Ukraine, we don’t have much to do with the six-nil, because some older brothers come from there and press, but in Latvia we were able to play a very aggressive game. In general, the whole game became a little faster,” Nodla acknowledged.

The entire team could not participate, but in general Nodla has clear ideas about who to use in March, because the team will not be able to gather more before the Ukrainian matches. However, according to Nodla, the Latvian tournament, where they won against Finland and Latvia and drew with Lithuania, showed that without long preparation they could show a good game from the first minute and there was no need to adapt for a long time.

“Yes, there was no real field, there were only matches, we went straight to the matches and played well. Aggression in defense, which was also very good at times, some things still need to be discussed, but no, it was very good, we set the pace, the young guys can do it, it looked pretty good at times,” said Dener Jaanimaa, the team’s inside right.

Nodla, who coaches the Audentes youth team, has an excellent view of the youth team and other young players. Even if most of the main core of the team still plays in foreign clubs, it would be worth the youth to set goals in this direction to move up the development curve.

“More quality practical training, some kind of little development, the internal motivation of the player, a little bit of skin and a little bit of luck, that several things come together and hopefully the players will be interested in developing. That’s mostly underlying everything,” Noodle said.

The Estonian national team will play the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on March 13 at home and on March 17 in Alytus, Lithuania.
