Before the tournament:
According to preliminary assignments, around 350 badminton players from around twenty countries are expected in Tartu, of which 150 will play among the juniors, the rest in the younger age groups.
Friday 8 December will be played in the morning after the preliminaries, on Saturday 9 December the quarter-finals will be played starting from 9:00 am and the semi-finals in the afternoon starting from 5:00 pm. Until Sunday 10 December only the finals are missing, which will take place starting from 10 pm on the fields of the sports hall.
This year the greatest hopes of the Triiton club, which hosts the tournament, are linked to Andrei Schmidt, who was crowned Estonian junior champion three times in the spring. In Tartu he has the best sixth place among our junior men. Above are Adith Karthikeyan Priya (Netherlands), Roko Pipunić (Croatia), Viktor Petrović (Serbia), Oliver Oldorff (Finland) and Hrvoje Mavriček (Croatia). In the doubles, Schmidt and Hugo Themas placed second, the favorites being the Croatian Mavriček and Pipunić.
In the women’s doubles our junior champions Elisaveta Berik and Emili Pärsim have the highest points, in the mixed doubles Oldorff and Berik, who have already worked together, are in second place, and Schmidt and Pärsim in third place. According to the rankings, Jelena Buchberger (Croatia) and Anwesha Gowda (India) could meet in the women’s singles final.
In the Under 17 age group, the tournament leaders are Marti Joost in the singles and Joost and Rasmus Roogsoo in the men’s doubles. In the mixed doubles Roogsool and Lumikki Liias and in the women’s doubles Liias and Emilia Šapovalova took second place, Šapovalova came third after the two Lithuanians in the singles.
