In order not to lose faith in good governance in the face of cynical opposition and the rapacity of politicians, we could take inspiration from distant Japan. That is to say, the Japanese were a very warlike people, constantly at war with each other until the Meiji Restoration in the 19th century.
A story full of hope characterizes the spirit of this era. Despite the war, the teacher of one village called the children to school every morning, which was exceptional because in the other villages the schools were closed. The teacher was asked what is the point of teaching children when there is a war going on everywhere and most of the children are killed anyway. The teacher replied that one day the war would end and then the few survivors would have to be educated and wise to move forward in life. We too should look beyond the current political stalemate and maintain faith in good governance.
