The Serbian Prosecutor’s Office asks the police to investigate alleged electoral fraud | foreign country

Serbia’s prosecutor’s office said Saturday it had asked police to start collecting evidence related to alleged fraud in recent elections that international observers say were marred by irregularities.

Parliamentary and local elections took place in Serbia on December 17, which President Aleksandar Vučić’s party won decisively.

However, the elections were followed by a barrage of international criticism, including from observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), who condemned violations such as vote-buying and so-called balloting, the illegal insertion of pre-filled ballots into the ballot boxes.

Demonstrations are held every day in front of the headquarters of the Serbian electoral commission and several members of the opposition have started a hunger strike to demand the annulment of the results.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the police have been invited to investigate the alleged violations so that prosecutors can determine whether there are grounds for formal prosecution.
