On January 16, Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra will start their European tour at the Pärnu Concert Hall, which is also a special concert of the XIV Pärnu Music Festival.

Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra (EFO), giving concerts around the world for the eighth season, will present the works of Arvo Pärt, the most internationally famous Estonian composer, and his contemporary Ukrainian composer Valentõn Sõlvestrov, in the concert opening of the new tour. Among the classics of the 20th century, the tour program includes Shostakovich, who also had to suffer repression during his lifetime.

The next day, other works from the tour will be performed in Tallinn. Afterwards, the musicians travel to Central Europe for a week. A concert will be held in Dortmund, kicking off a series of events showcasing Arvo Pärt’s work in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Then the destination is taken south to Stuttgart and Zurich, where the next concerts will be held. The tour ends in the great cultural meccas of Europe, Vienna and Munich.

The EFO tour will feature top musicians working in Estonian orchestras, Estonians pursuing careers abroad and soloists from many of Europe’s top orchestras. EFO director Paavo Järvi calls the collective one of his most important musical releases and promises the continuation of traditions in the new year: they will return to the home audience at the XIV Pärnu Music Festival, which will take place from 9 to 19. in July 2024.

On the bus to Pärnu for the opening concert of the EFO European tour

The audience at the opening concert of the EFO European tour, which will begin on January 16 at 7 pm in the Pärnu Concert Hall, will be the first to experience the fresh musical atmospheres and program in the EFO main hall, where the orchestra is preparing for the tour. On the same evening, the programs of the summer Pärnu Music Festival will also be presented to the public for the first time.

To ensure a more convenient arrival at the concert, Pärnu Music Festival, together with Lux Express Charter, will provide special concert buses that will depart from Otsa Street, near the Estonian National Opera at 4.30 pm on January 16, and return to I enter Tallinn by bus the same evening after the end of the concert from the parking lot of the Pärnu concert hall. Return bus tickets are available at the Ticket Center.

Pärnu Music Festival is one of the best-known international classical music festivals in Estonia, combining the Järvi Academy, i.e. workshops for young musicians, a high-level concert program and the Estonian Festival Orchestra under the direction and direction by Paavo Järvi, who has toured prestigious concert halls across Europe, as well as having performed at the BBC Proms in the Albert Hall. The orchestra always performs once a year in front of its home audience in Pärnu, at the Pärnu Music Festival.
